A slightly uncomfortable story coming out of the basketball shoe world this past weekend. Whilst we normally like to cover positive new shoe size release stories in this blog, I felt this deserved some brief coverage.

As you probably read, Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls suffered a nasty knee injury on the weekend - a torn anterior cruciate ligament, leaving him unavailable for the playoffs. It also looks as if he will miss the USA basketball team for June's London Olympics. Ouch.

To add significant insult to injury, the Nike designer of LeBron James' Nike basketball shoes tweeted the following:

You got one guy only getting stronger, and one guy breaking down before our very eyes. You chose poorly Pooh...

Although the offending tweet was shortly retracted, and no longer appears on his timeline, the damage was done. Rose is backed by Adidas in a big way, and the insinuation was most uncalled for. Nike vs Adidas rivalry in the basketball arena is all well and good, but lets keep it on the court.
